Head of Experimental Medicine Cardiovascular/Hematology (m/f/d)

Your tasks and responsibilities


  • Be responsible for directing and coordinating all activities to optimize the output of development candidates to achieve proof of concept and/or enter late stage development in a time- and resource-efficient manner, including  the development and targeted use of experimental medicine tools with the ultimate goal of optimizing decisions for the therapeutic area Cardiovascular (CV) to advance New Molecular Entities into phase llb development phase
  • Lead a group of medical experts focused on translational medicine, i.e. translating early research results towards the human disease situation
  • Apply state of the art methodology in a flexible way to increase the level of certainty in respect to later investments into phase IIb and phase III-programs
  • Collaborate closely with the functions Precision Medicine, Modeling and Simulation, Clinical Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics as well as late Clinical Development and Early Research
  • Take a leadership role in defining the future needs of the therapeutic area CV together with the Therapeutic Research Group through an intimate knowledge of the drug discovery programs
  • Be familiar with all drug discovery, early and late stage development projects within the therapeutic area to provide input with regard to experimental development capabilities and programs
  • Ensure optimal utilization of resources and appropriate strategies to make go/no go decisions on programs in a timely and cost effective way and participate in Review and Licensing Committees and provide strategic licensing input
  • Present the CV therapeutic area externally, in particular build a network of key opinion leaders to support the CV development projects of the company


Who you are


  • Medical Doctor degree with a strong scientific background in a relevant discipline and with in-depths experience from experimental/translational medicine
  • Demonstrated expertise in CV drug development and a strong track record of accomplishments in CV drug discovery and/or development
  • Strong ability to translate Basic Research and/or Clinical sciences with the ability to cross between the two fields with preferably experience across all phases of clinical development, ideally within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry
  • Proven successful leadership of a high performance team
  • Experience from both small and large molecules R&D
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret clinical data and relate them to the clinical setting
  • Proven understanding of the complexities of clinical development and especially of the translational phase from discovery to Proof of Concept
  • Fluency in English is mandatory, command of a second major European language is an asset
