Phyto Sourcing Trainee Program
Bayer is a global enterprise with core competencies in the fields of health care and agriculture. The Consumer Health Division encompasses world-renowned consumer brands in the areas of allergies, analgesics, cardiovascular risk prevention, cough, cold and flu, dermatology, foot care, gastrointestinal care, dietary supplements and sun protection. The competence center for phytomedicine at Bayer’s Darmstadt site develops and produces high-quality herbal medicines, known as phytopharmaceuticals, for the national and international market.
Wide-ranging career prospects
Our experts in phyto sourcing are responsible for obtaining the plant-based raw materials for developing and producing phytopharmaceuticals and dealing with the challenges of the variability of plants found in nature. By aligning specific sourcing strategies that take into account reliability and sustainability, they ensure the future growth of our company.
As a trainee at Steigerwald Arzneimittelwerk GmbH, you will gain a broad overview of the organization, workflows and activities of the Bayer Competency Center for Phytomedicine and get to know our customers and markets. You will build a network of contacts and gain deeper knowledge of phyto sourcing and related areas, such as quality assurance and development, which will provide you with the ideal preparation for your first management role in phyto sourcing.
What you offer
You have a master’s degree in agricultural sciences, agricultural engineering or horticulture and ideally some practical experience as a crop consultant or in the phytopharmaceutical industry, for example, in the form of (international) internships. You have in-depth knowledge of botany and will fit in particularly well with us if you share our passion for innovation and want your ideas to palpably change people’s lives.
You enjoy working with others and value the diversity of teams with people from different cultures and with different views. You also work independently and with a focus on achieving results, and are flexible and prepared to work anywhere in the world. Your strengths include assertiveness and social skills, together with a clear customer focus and a strategic mindset. You speak fluent German and good to very good English, and preferably another foreign language as well.
What we offer
As an international science-based company, we are passionate about products and services that improve the way people live in our world. Bayer offers an open and inspiring environment. We will encourage you to question the status quo and think ahead. It takes imagination, ambition and courage to find answers to society's most pressing questions.
During this 24-month trainee program you will be given interesting insights into various activities at the Bayer Phyto Competence Center. Your activities will focus on phyto sourcing. You will be responsible for activities and independent projects in connection with the cultivation and growth of medicinal plants and the strategic development of sourcing strategies. Assignments in Germany and abroad have a firm place in this program and offer you an opportunity to build networks in many functional areas. At the same time, individual training modules will prepare you for a future position in management. Assignments in each unit last between three and nine months and are individually tailored to each trainee.
During this period, you will participate in the selection and development of reliable suppliers, the management of supplier relationships, and monitoring of agreed seed, cultivation, harvesting and storage strategies based on our company’s needs. Within your area of responsibility, you are a valued business partner and assist with decision making and performance management with your department and management.
Throughout the program you will be mentored by an experienced Bayer manager, who will help you identify individual career prospects, give you feedback on your performance and agree upon development measures with you.
Excellent work will be rewarded from the start. In addition to a competitive compensation package, this includes wide-ranging career prospects following successful completion of the two-year program.
