Senior Business and Information Architect LifeScience R&D (m/f/d)

Your tasks and responsibilities

R&D IT is Bayer’s internal IT organization that collaborates with the Research, Development, Medical Affairs and Pharmacovigilance functions of our division Pharmaceuticals. R&D-IT is responsible for innovation, conceptualization, building and operation of an integrated environment to drive core company processes. In this role, you will be an intermediary (m/f) between the business community and the technical community working with IT project teams, technical experts and R&D colleagues to manage and promote projects in the fields of data architecture and digitization of knowledge.


  • Responsible for managing R&D and Medical Affairs & Pharmacovigilance (MAPV) initiatives and projects with focus on knowledge management and data architecture
  • Contribute to projects in business process design and information architecture
  • Develop data-centric strategies and provide direction for data architecture best practices for the organization
  • Collaborate and provide guidance to the broader architecture community and delivery teams on data integration standards and best practices
  • Design data models for operational databases, data stores, data-marts, and data warehouses
  • Drive the definition of the project's scope, business case development, and identification of required resources in collaboration with Business Partners and Account Management
  • Drive the development and management of the project workplan as well as oversee the tracking and maintenance of project financials
  • Lead and manage project teams as well as external parties on projects
  • Manage all project risks/issues and inform Account Management when necessary


Who you are

  • Master's degree in computer applications, software engineering or a closely related course of studies
  • Several years of working experience in systems and applications engineering, especially of direct business information systems deployment experience, in business process analytics and in analysis and design of cross-functional information flows
  • Passionate about life sciences along with several years of professional experience in the IT sector in the pharmaceutical, biotech or medical product industry or in the life sciences-related consulting environment and are familiar with business processes in the area of drug/medical product development, approval and/or safety
  • Good knowledge in the fields of knowledge management, architecture design principles and integration frameworks and patterns
  • Experienced in project management in an industrial environment and several years of project team leadership experience incl. good knowledge of project management methodologies
  • Strong collaborator (m/f) and team player (m/f)
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills and high degree of personal initiative to engage collaborators and peers, build relationships well across functions and effectively communicate with executive management and board of directors
  • Capability to maintain direction and focus in complex situations through proactive planning and organized approaches to work
  • Business fluent in English, both written and spoken
