Principal Expert - Process and Plant Safety (m/f)

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Lead/moderate interdisciplinary PPS teams and document results within the systematic safety review or management of change workflow in order to design adequate safety concepts for new or operating process units of mega complexity (CapEx >50 M€) and hazard potential of Bayer
  • Develop and document thermal hazards prevention and protection concepts
  • Ensure safety concepts are complying with internal/external PPS directives and regulations as well as with the HAZOP methodology
  • Support the operations permitting process for new production units or revalidation/update of permit of existing production units globally at all Bayer sites
  • Participate in pre-startup safety reviews to confirm the correct implementation of safety measures prior to startup
  • Lead incident investigations and support continuous improvement of safety concepts in Bayer production units
  • Perform drafting of expert´s reports and be assessor of PPS affairs for Bayer
  • Support internal working groups / panels in the development of tools and know-how for the PPS community

 

 

Who you are

  • Diploma or Master degree in chemistry; PhD would be preferred
  • Long-term experience on the job and proven PPS expertise as subject matter expert (m/f)  
  • Comprehensive process technology know-how acquired through several years of operational experience as unit lead (m/f) or reliability/maintenance lead engineer (m/f) in chemical production units preferably involving responsibility for direct reports
  • Specialized knowledge and long-time experience in chemical hazards as well as expertise on behavior and control of exothermic chemical reactions
  • Committed to implement business goals and the requirements of the Bayer Safety Management, including internal and external PPS guidelines and regulations
  • High degree of self-initiative combined with a target- and decision-oriented work style as well as willingness to address difficult issues  
  • High ability to solve problems and to structure and simplify complex tasks
  • Ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
  • Excellent English skills, both written and spoken; German skills are advantageous
