Background checks – or pre-employment checks – have long been standard practice in some countries and are not uncommon. We are now introducing them for a number of positions in top management and selected, critical areas in Germany. As a responsible employer, we want to make filling new positions as fair as possible – in the interests of our employees, partners and customers, as well as your own interest as a potential new employee.
As always, our company-wide goals take top priority here, too – transparency for everyone involved at all times, compliance with country-specific data protection laws and, above all, the protection of your very own personal rights.
Whether you’ve gone through one or two background checks before, or this is your first – you can pat yourself on the back because this means you have already come a long way in the application process, and there is not much left standing in the way between you and your dream job. Integrity is one of the LIFE values on which we base our actions, and when filling new positions, especially in top management and in selected, critical areas, we as an employer have a very special responsibility towards our employees, customers and partners. Background checks help us to make the job filling process as fair as possible and to find the right candidates. As soon as you are being considered for a position, your local Bayer contact will inform you and send you an email with respect to starting your background check.
You can be happy, because that means you are amongst the final candidates and within touching distance of your dream job. As a global company, we work with First Advantage, a trustworthy, very reliable partner, to carry out the background checks for us. This is the reason why you have received an email to start your background check.
The checks will cover identity verification, employment verification, education verification, reference check and any other details your CV might include. We will ask for your historical details dating back seven to ten years. This includes any screening based on your location of residence even if you have lived abroad during that time. Please provide documents in line with the information given during your background check. In any case we need a copy of your identity card or passport. If information is still missing, you will receive an email notification to requesting further documents or details.
Only the Bayer HR contact can see your details, and the results of the report will only be in the HR system of Bayer and the platform of First Advantage. The report details will be discussed between your local HR contact, and the relevant Human Resources Business Partner and/or manager at Bayer.
Please add your documents using PDF, JPG or PNG file formats. You can either upload the documents or take a picture of the document with your smartphone while maintaining your profile. The maximum size of all files is 10 MB.
At Bayer, we always ensure transparency for everyone involved, compliance with country-specific data protection laws and, above all, the protection of your very own personal rights. You will know the outcome of your background check when you receive either further employment documents or a rejection letter. Please remember that we cannot share any details of the background check with you.

If a position requires a background check, we can only consider you as a candidate, if you agree to conduct it.
If you have any problems, please contact First Advantage or inform us as soon as possible. This is particularly important in relation to documents that won’t be available within a given timeframe. We need this information as soon as possible to find a solution together with you.
