From the North of Italy to Bergkamen – Quality Assurance as my new home
My name is Daniela Battista. I grew up in the north of Italy and I joined Bayer in Bergkamen in Quality Assurance in April 2018. I’d love to tell you a bit more how I got to Bayer.
From 2011 to 2016, I studied chemistry at the universities of Milan and Hamburg. Throughout my studies, I was able to participate in several international sponsorship programs and got in touch with many international students and professors. This was an exciting time, in which I had the opportunity to research and study in a great international environment and develop intercultural skills as well as learn German.
Towards the end of my studies, I decided to combine my academic skills with industry experience and therefore wrote my master’s thesis in the Quality Control of schülke – a company seated in Norderstedt near Hamburg. During this time, I got the chance to learn several processes in the area of Quality Control – System Assurance, focusing on the validation of spectroscopic methods to analyze pharmaceutical and medical products.
I enjoyed the experience at schülke so much and I was offered a graduate position. Over the following two years, I developed and implemented a new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for the Quality Control and optimized several device interfaces as well as SAP processes for the automatic creation of certificates of analysis. Working through projects and implementing the LIM-System helped me familiarize with the wide range of Q-Unit processes.
In late 2017, Bayer contacted me about a position in Quality Assurance, and I spontaneously traveled to Bergkamen. I was immediately won over by the job itself as well as the atmosphere and opportunities Bayer offers – so it was an easy decision for me to take. Since April 2018, I am responsible for different validation projects of computerized systems and I lead interdepartmental IT/QC projects. Every day, I deal with data integrity and IT security topics at our site.
What I particularly enjoy about my job is the direct contact with other departments such as Quality Control, IT and microbiology. The helpful colleagues across all departments made my start at Bayer really easy.
I am particularly impressed by Bayer’s engagement by offering ongoing training to keep developing their employees and several opportunities to organize leisure activities with the colleagues. It didn’t take long for me to make new friends through the Bergkamen sports association and settle right into my new home.
I really look forward to many exciting years at Bayer!
