From family business to international consulting
Hi, my name is Mukund. I was born in India and lived in several countries while pursuing my studies and career. In 2018, I moved to Leverkusen to work as a Senior Consultant for Marketing & Sales at Bayer Business Consulting. Here I get to work on interesting projects that are very close to the businesses within Bayer.
Journey until I joined Bayer Business Consulting
I have always been utterly fascinated with problem-solving since an early age, and of course consulting revolves around precisely that, using methodical approaches. I took the opportunity further when a former colleague recommended that I apply for a consulting job at Bayer.
My diverse experiences have helped me develop skill sets that benefit me in my current role. After studying engineering in Singapore, I worked in the financial services industry, analyzing and reporting risk evaluations of financial instruments and also leading a few Lean Sigma projects. I then moved to Barcelona for two years to complete my MBA at the IESE Business School and spent five years in an entrepreneurial role leading my family business in India. My experiences have developed my strong foundation in analytical skills and my confidence in delivering results even in highly ambiguous scenarios, both of which are important for being successful in consulting.
Appreciating diversity at work and beyond
I am impressed by the work and culture at Bayer Business Consulting . The team runs a wide range of projects across multiple divisions on topics that I find very valuable, as they closely relate to basic food and medicine needs. Besides being very passionate about their work, the colleagues are also very collaborative and supportive. The team here comes from various backgrounds and nationalities and brings in diverse perspectives, which keeps the discussions both insightful and interesting.
In my personal life too, I have appreciated the diversity that I got to experience living in different countries during my career. As I did not speak any German before moving here, I am glad that Bayer offered language classes to help me integrate into the local culture.
An experience not to be missed!
If you were to ask me what advice I would give to young people thinking of applying to Bayer, I would undoubtedly say: it’s a great learning experience!
