Exploring new destinations and gaining experience
Voices full of anticipation, a crowd bitten by the travel bug – I love the atmosphere at airports. Travel is a passion of mine and exploring new destinations and gaining experience is in my nature. These are also the qualities that help me fulfill my work responsibilities and develop further. My name is Hristina Ioncheva and I want to tell you about my latest adventures at Bayer.
As Bayer’s former Head of Accounting and Tax Country Group Platform Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova …
… I was given a short-term assignment (STA) in Leverkusen. The experience I gained was wide-ranging. I worked as a cross-functional project lead, enabling an open dialog with a wide range of contributors and stakeholders. Working at headquarters provided me with the bigger picture and helped me to envisage future scenarios from a global point of view.
These experiences complemented the skills I had acquired over my eight years at Bayer. I have learned how to achieve proximity to the business and to support colleagues, and how to add value to the organization. I have learned how to lead, guide and coach people, as well as how important feedback is and when to give it.
I previously worked for Schering …
… and it was the acquisition of Schering that first took me to Bayer, before I left the company for two years. A really interesting job offer in Accounting brought me back however and I rejoined as Finance and Accounting Manager at Bayer Bulgaria. The attractive development opportunities within the Bayer Group and the support of the company were more than enough to convince me to stay. Over the last eight years I have developed both my technical expertise and my soft skills on a daily basis through training and assignments. Moreover, my recent STA was the latest opportunity for me to learn new skills and to fulfill my personal goals defined in the Development Dialogues.
The last past eight years …
… have flown by so quickly and it’s been a dynamic time. Part of this dynamism was due to a multitude of new tasks and projects, all of which continuously taught me new things. And it’s clear to me that my journey at Bayer is not yet over. After the STA I received the opportunity to start in a new position at Bayer headquarters. I’m currently working as an Accounting Manager in the Regional Accounting department in Leverkusen.
What would be my advice for potential employees in Bayer’s Accounting Community? …
… Come and work for Bayer and you never will be bored. Working for Bayer will prove the quote from Heraclitus for you “The only constant in life is change.” At Bayer change is a good thing, after all, it brings with it opportunities for further development.
