Bayer never stands still
My name is Iván Espinoza, I am 42 years old and I always do my best to be a few steps ahead – either in my job as head of Accounting of the Andean country group or when I’m out for a run: Jogging challenges me and gives me balance at the same time.
I have a great deal of responsibility as I work with big numbers and lots of different contacts around the world every day. Since becoming a certified public accountant, I always knew that I wanted to pursue a career in accounting. It was the logical link between my qualifications and my interests.
Colleagues and friends say I am a sincere and trustful person. Attributes like these may have helped me to contribute to Bayer’s business success, and also to global and other accounting projects. Bayer never stands still. In fact, it moves faster than other companies. As an employee, you have to act the same way and embrace change and develop yourself.
From student to Head of Accounting of a country group
Starting as an undergraduate, I found the support and the challenges I was searching for at Bayer. After my first interviews I had no doubt that Bayer was the place where I wanted to work. Not only because the company was willing to support me as a student, but also because the thought of being a part of Bayer made me feel proud.
Indeed, I carved out my career from that time on: Between 1998 and 2001, I worked as a General Accountant Analyst in Venezuela, between 2001 and 2013 as a Closing Coordinator for the Andean Region in Colombia, and until 2016 as Chief Financial Officer in Bolivia. In 2016, I started my job as head of Accounting of the Andean country group. I am deeply grateful to Bayer. I received full support from the start – even during my studies.
Spending time with my family and enjoying health and happiness are the three most important things to me. And Bayer allows me to combine my business goals with personal priorities. Sometimes, I think destiny brought me to Bayer. My advice to new Bayer employees would be this: take control of your own career and never delegate your future. At Bayer you have the opportunity to build up a promising career, if you want to. It is all up to you.
