PostDoc - Biologics Research Assay Development (m/f/d)
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Bayer is looking for a highly creative and motivated biochemist / scientist Assay Development (m/f/d) to join Bayer’s Biologics Research Department (BR) within Drug Discovery Sciences Wuppertal, Germany. You will be part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists within the R&D organization and contribute to the discovery and engineering of innovative therapeutic proteins. This two-year position will focus on the characterization and engineering of therapeutic proteases. Located in the Protein Engineering Group, you will closely collaborate with colleagues from Biologics Research, Pharmacology and Early Research within Pharmaceuticals R&D in Germany and the US. In detail, you will:
Play a hands-on bench scientist (m/f/d) role designing, validating and executing biochemical and cell-based assays at Bayer’s Biologics Research center for antibody & enzyme discovery and protein engineering in Wuppertal, Germany
Evaluate novel therapeutic proteases and characterize their activity profile in relevant assay formats
Co-design and manage protein engineering projects for specificity engineering of novel proteases
Scout and evaluate state-of-the-art protease assay technologies for in-vitro validation of therapeutic proteases and potential off-target activities
Work in close collaboration with technical staff and scientists within the department and across Bayer to drive our portfolio of product-oriented research programs
WHO YOU ARE
PhD in biochemistry, cell biology, in vitro pharmacology or a related discipline
Hands-on experience with biochemical assays is essential, experience in mammalian cell-culture and (cell-based) assay development is a plus
Experience with relevant methods (preferably HTS compatible), including fluorescence- / UV-based assays, protease specificity assays and protease specificity engineering is a plus
Experience in and insights into the discovery and development of proteases as therapeutics and/or background in immunology are a plus
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills, outstanding analytical thinking, as well as enthusiasm for hands-on bench work
High degree of commitment as well as ability to take action for continuous improvement
Curiosity and a passion for research
Fluent in English, both written and spoken
This is a fixed-term contract for 2 years.
